Grille shell, also known as grille frame, is the surrounding of the car grille. It is an element, which is sold by the grille manufacturers separately. Note, that some aftermarket grilles require usage of the factory grille shell. If the product description says this, most likely this particular manufacturer does not offer grille shells separately. Otherwise, the description would say, that the grille shell/frame is sold separately.
Installation of grille overlay is pretty simple and does not require any special skills or very specific tools. The main thing you need to remember when you are installing a grille overlay is to be careful in order not to break anything in the process. Also, it is a good idea to prepare all the tools and let your vehicle cool down in case you have driven it not to touch hot parts during the installation. Typically, installation of a replacement grille is considered easy, as all you need to do is just to unbolt the original grille and frame from the vehicle and install a new aftermarket grille instead. Even though the installation process differs based on the vehicle application, normally cutting is not required. However, in some cases you may need to remove some upper or lower shrouds.
